San Jose Grants Fund Programs in the Capital of Silicon Valley

San Jose GrantsWhile for the most part grants that are offered in San Jose are for non-profit organizations, there is one arts grant offered by the city itself to individual residents. And one community foundation provides a large amount of scholarship funding for local students. These San Jose grants mainly fund the work of area non-profits focused on causes that greatly affect the local community. If you live in San Jose, take some time to look over these great local sources for grants right there in your city.

Almaden Valley Women’s Club
This women’s club was founded in 1965 and serves both Almaden Valley and the greater San Jose area. It offers community grants that support a large number of local organizations including the special olympics, hospice, scouting and area schools. Fundraising is accomplished by the club through the annual Almaden Art and Wine Festival which allows the group to issue around $40,000 in grants every year. Applications are accepted from local non-profit organizations and schools and each can apply for up to $2,000 in grant assistance per request. The annual deadline for applications is November 15 and grants are announced yearly during December. The club accepts these applications through and easy to use online grants form.

City of San Jose Community Grants
The City of San Jose handles grant funding for a number of housing issues including the disbursement of federal community development block grant funding, an emergency shelter grant and support for programs that provide housing opportunity to patients living with HIV or AIDS. Additionally, the city also provides funds for local festivals and cultural affairs programming in the San Jose area. The festival, parade and celebration grant will provide $2,500 to $5,000 in support. For arts organizations, the city offers operating grants for regular support and program grants to fund specific local art projects.

Silicon Valley Community Foundation
This area community foundation saw its start in 2007. It primarily serves San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. It offers grant funding for local non-profit organizations working across five strategic areas. Grants are offered through a community opportunity fund and for economic security, education, immigrant integration and regional planning. Organizations interested in applying for funding must submit a request for proposal and attend a regularly scheduled info session to be approved to submit a funding request. This process is ongoing and has no annual deadline.

In addition to its support for initiatives carried out by local non-profit organizations, this community foundation also handles a great amount of education funding for area students through two types of scholarship programs. Last year alone, 257 students received well over $1.2 million in foundation managed and donor involved scholarships. These scholarships are only available to current or former residents of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. Applications open yearly during December and deadlines begin in February depending on the scholarship being applied for.
