Residents of Jacksonville have several grants available that are only offered in their local area. These Jacksonville grants are offered by the city itself, a cultural council and the local community foundation. While most of this grant support is earmarked for use by area non-profit organizations, there are several grant opportunities for individual Jacksonville artists. If you live in the Jacksonville area, check out these sources for local grants right there in the city you call home.
City of Jacksonville
Many of the local grants available in Jacksonville are issued by various departments of the city and a full list of these available grant opportunities are listed on Jacksonville’s website. These include several programs that support citywide efforts like crime prevention, job opportunity and access to low-income housing. The city also offers grant support through several programs that fund local community efforts like the Children’s Commission Grant Program and the Public Service Grant Program. If you are actively involved in increasing local tourism, you can apply for a city grant from the Duval County Tourist Development Council. The city also supports the arts through municipal funding that is distributed by the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville.
Community Foundation for Northeast Florida
This community foundation has been around since 1965 and provides a sizable amount of grantmaking in the Northeast Florida area. Last year alone, the foundation and its affiliated donors contributed $31.2 million in local grants. Most support is donated to area non-profit organizations that hold 501c3 status with the IRS. This support is targeted across three focus areas. These support the local arts, programs for aging adults and early childhood initiatives. Additionally, this foundation supports both smaller arts organizations and individual artists through its Art Ventures program. Over the 20 years that the foundation has provided this program, it has funded almost 40 small arts organizations and supported over 90 individual artists. For more information about any of these foundation grants, call 904-356-4483.
Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville
This Jacksonville cultural council provides local grants to arts organizations through two grant programs. The Cultural Service Grant Program is an annual competitive grants process. To apply, you must file your letter of intent no later than the end of February. The second program supports projects in the city’s Spark arts district. The Spark Grant Program offers funding for anything including art installations, performances and different types of district improvements. This program is open for both non-profit arts organizations and individual artists as long as the request for funding is to be used within the Spark District. In addition to these grants for arts organizations, the council also maintains a list of individual artist opportunities on its website. For more information about the cultural council, call 904-358-3600 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
