Austin Grants Fund Local Programs in the Live Music Capital

Austin GrantsGrants in Austin, Texas support several different types of non-profit organizations working in your local community. These Austin grants are offered by the city itself and by a group of foundations supported by philanthropists in the local area. While most grants are offered only to non-profit organizations, there is one grant that assists neighborhood groups with funding for beautification efforts. A Glimmer of Hope Austin
This foundation was started by a husband and wife team of local philanthropists in 2000. It focuses its support for young people in the Austin area under the age of 25 and to programs for Austin seniors. It also provides a camp experience for disadvantaged youth called Camp Glimmer that serves over 500 kids each summer. 100% of the money raised by Glimmer Austin goes to support organizations working in Austin through grants of up to $20,000 each. These grants are offered as seed grants to fund new projects and programs. Proposals are accepted from 501c3 holding non-profit organizations during two grant cycles each year. Austin Community Foundation
This foundation was created in 1977. It maintains over 900 individual charitable giving funds endowed by individual donors, other foundations, corporate supporters and non-profit organizations. Grants offered by this community foundation support organizations around Austin and the Central Texas region to pay for projects and programs that impact the local community. Individuals funds support the arts, health and human services, the environment, community development, education, recreation and animal causes. Grant requests are only accepted from non-profit organizations who hold 501c3 status. Requests are handled completely online and organizations can only apply for funding once every 12 months. This application process is handled on a rolling basis with requests for funding accepted year round. City of Austin
Several grants are offered by the city itself. One major focus of the city’s grant program is housing assistance and community development. This program provides grant funding to non-profit organizations working to provide affordable housing to low-income Austin residents. The city also funds a major technology initiative that offers matching funds to groups looking to increase internet and technology access especially in underserved communities. The third type of grant offered by the City of Austin involves cultural funding. This program offers grant funding for arts programming to cultural arts organizations through what it calls cultural contracts. Impact Austin
This women’s philanthropy group brings together women from all over the Austin area who not only donate funds to Impact Austin’s giving program but also decide collectively which local initiatives receive funding. Members donate at least $1,000 each as part of their membership dues which allows the organization to make multiple $100,000 grants to local causes. Impact Austin focuses on five impact areas for grantmaking. These are culture, education, environment, family and health. The annual application process starts with a letter of inquiry submitted through the organization’s website. Organizations accepted to fill out a complete application will then be selected for a site visit during the month of April. Grants are then decided by Impact’s membership during their annual meeting in June. Grants are only offered to non-profit organizations who hold 501c3 status by this organization.

Keep Austin Beautiful
This local non-profit was created by the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce in 1985. Its overall mission is to support litter prevention and cleanup programs and to beautify the City of Austin. KAB offers grant assistance to area neighborhoods to support beautification efforts around the city. Neighborhood groups can apply for and receive $500 to $2,500 in matching funds to pay for beautification projects. Funding can pay for public gardens, mural installations, graffiti removal, public space improvements and more.
